Copywriting Tips - 3 Ways To Get Your Prospect Excited
There is nothing worse than writing a sales letter that, when your prospect reads it, puts the prospect to sleep. Trust me, I have read many a sales pitch that has sent me off to dreamland. This is like the kiss of death. Well, if you think your sales copy is putting YOUR prospect into a coma, then you might want to read this article. You'll pick up three great ways to get your prospect excited so that he doesn't doze off during the reading of your masterpiece.
Hit him with a dose of honesty. That's right. Say something in your copy that absolutely shocks him. For example, in a lot of my sales letters where I am pitching a "make money online" product, I'll say something like, "Making a killing online isn't as easy as the gurus make it sound." This really gets the prospect's attention because they are not in any way expecting this kind of statement in a sales pitch. Yes, hit them with some brutal truth and you WILL keep them awake.
Start off with a compelling story. This is actually one of my favorite methods. Again, going back to the "make money online" niche, I'll usually start off by telling the prospect how I lost my job and was almost forced to find another way to earn a living. I tell about my early days online and what a nightmare it was. Once people start reading about your plight, or the plight of your client, they're going to want to read more and find out how it turns out. Everybody loves a great mystery. If you can do this with your sales letter, you've struck gold.
Finally, be very descriptive with your writing. You need to draw a very clear picture in the mind of your prospect so that they can see the story, see what they're getting, see the benefits, and so on. Use lots of descriptive words. For example, when I talk about my agony during those early days, I talk about how I'd sit at my computer almost tearing my hair out of my head and throwing CD cases around the room. The more detail you go into, the more vivid the picture.
Honesty, a compelling story and descriptive writing are three ways to keep your prospect from falling asleep at the wheel, or at the keyboard as it might be. Always use these whenever you write a sales letter and you'll do just fine.
